Minutes (1866-1967), correspondence, financial records (1868-1937), annual reports (1881-1967), newspaper clippings, newsletters (1926-1933), directories (1919-1980), and other printed matter (1919-1982) of a women's organization begun in 1866 to create and support a safe residence for unmarried working women. Several residences for both women and men were eventually created. Other projects were the Phyllis Wheatley Community Center (1920-1939), the Jones-Harrison House (1900-1978) for older women, and the Janette Merrill Park (1921-1946) which provided a country place for vacations.
